Your favorite podcasts
I've got a new phone that can do more things than my old phone so my first official act was to get a podcast manager and subscribe to a giant pile of podcasts and it's amazing  \o/
Except there's so much to choose from! I'm pretty much covered in respect to what I usually listen to and things I found in vicinity so I'm curious about what isn't on my radar - if you listen to podcasts, which ones do you like? Also so far I could do with some more pop culture, do you know something about comics (non-superhero) and games that isn't moderated by only dudes? Is there anything about fandom? :D

I don't know a podcast about comics but a friend of mine writes a blog and tweets, and she seems quite knowledgeable as far as a non comic person like me can tell...

My hubby loves Mark Kermode's film reviews (he's a podcasty person, my hubster) http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/kermode

Cool I found something I'm going to try on her blog and the film podcast looks great too! I've mostly got Radio4 things from BBC so far, I'm pretty clueless about the other programs they have :D

Radio 4 is great for plays and I like the 30 minute things from 6:30 every day - like the News Quiz and Sorry I Haven't a Clue. Radio 5 is a mixed bag, mostly sport and current affairs so I'm not sure why the films ended up on there and not R4.
Glad you found something on Sarah's blog!

Ooh, that one looks killer! I really REALLY want to start working on comics/graphic novels, with an eye towards original properties. I've been seriously considering getting the Pretty Deadly series because it looks like it's totally my thing. Might just have to do that.

I also listen to a podcast called Guttertalk, but it's all guys. (I subscribe over @ iTunes, but I'm sure they have a site, too.) Are you looking towards actually drawing a comic/graphic novel, Sas? (If so, www.makingcomics.com might be of some interest...)

Nah, I'm a bit of a failboat with sequence and I know it takes a lot to be good at paneling (and I know many people from Germany's tiny comics scene, so I'm pretty sure it's not my thing haha) - right now I'm mostly interested in good reviews for my buying decisions! It's a bit difficult to find people who talk about the comics I read though :( Maybe I should work on my French, lol. I'm also interested in like, discussion of different aesthetics and things like that.

Are you already working on a concrete project?

Are you already working on a concrete project?

Oh, not really. I mean, sort of? I agree with you; sequentials are so much harder than they look, and my consistency isn't great. But I'm jonesing to both tell a story and stick pictures to it. Monicawoe and I are working on a graphic-novel-esque retelling of one of her short stories; she's tackling the writing and breakdown into pages, and I'm ineptly trying to draw it. I don't have any aspirations that I'll be GOOD at this, but it's something I want to try. If I don't just jump in and blindly start, make the shitty mistakes early, I'll never figure it out. I may never figure it out anyway, but I want to make the attempt.

Snickfic is the queen of comics; she would have bunches of recs. Petite_madame is pretty comic-savvy too.

I can recommend a clever anthropomorphic noire graphic novel set called Blacksad. Now, I do NOT dig furries and that weirdness, but this one is so well-drawn and cool, you don't even notice that the 'people' have animal heads. http://blacksad-gallery.blogspot.com/

Eventually, I'd love to develop my own IP. I kinda don't care if it succeeds on any sort of level. But I'm always up to discussing aesthetics and story; I'm just not very widely read with comics. Might make for an interesting 'reading club',

"And this month, we read Becky Cloonan's Conan..."

I've read Blacksad, it's been a pretty big hit in Europe. Haha, I didn't mean to ask for recs necessarily, I think that's been a misunderstanding, my backlog of things I want to read is pretty giant!

I could use recs if you have some you like! Especially aesthetically. Great design and all.
